Product Rec. #2!!! BB Cream

I figure today is a good day for another product recommendation. One of these days, I will figure out how to divide my blog into sections. That way I can update my posts under various headings such as Recommendations, God, Random Stories. That would be a very fun thing to organize. Sigh, I have not been blogging much lately. It has not been for lack of wanting to blog, however. I just seem to have hit some writer's block. I don't have much to say. :(. It's sad. I miss blogging like I work for a Newspaper.

So yesterday was my day off, and while perusing the internet, and I decided to go on a little splurge of an adventure. Let me start at the beginning:

A few weeks ago, I noticed that apparently  BB Creams are the latest fad and all makeup companies are coming out with them, but I, a person who is obsessed with makeup, have only recently heard of them. I must be falling behind on my meaningless and pointless obsessions. Now I must admit, the idea of a cream that evens skin tones, hydrates skin without creating excess oil, fights acne while giving oil control, provides a high SPF for summer, AND gives a light foundation coverage SEEMED too good to be true when I first heard of it. What am I? An idiot? I think not. Such a creation would be an impossible feat. No one can create that. Sure they can MARKET that a cream will do that, but it surely will NOT do anything of the sort. Needless to say, all the marketing always gets to me; just like Sharon Chen, I have been 'marketed' into buying all sorts of stupid things, and since noticing the BB creams, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't drawn into trying a couple, or three...or four. BUT ALAS, do not fret my money-conscious readers. All my trials have been with products at stores that either 1. give free samples or 2. allow for returns on products after use.

My first BB trial was with this Boscia BB Cream because it received pretty good reviews and I liked Boscia's cleaners, (even though both cream and cleanser are a bit pricey- $38), but for me, I found that my face turned into an oil slick within a half hour of application of it. It got returned.

Next up was Garnier Fructis BB Cream, which is noticably cheaper at only $13. In the past, I have loved Garnier products, so despite low reviews, I had high hopes. They were dashed, nonetheless. The reviews were right. Once again, oil slick was I....actually, as soon as I squirted it out on my hands, I could tell it wasn't going to be good. It was so liquidy and oily. Negative. Hello Rite Aid: Here is your product back.

Then I picked up a sample of Estee Lauder's BB Cream. Even the lady at the counter told me she wasn't sure it if would meet my needs, and she was right. Very minimal coverage, and I noticed no difference with oil control. Fail.

So by this point, I had pretty much decided that the BB fad was NOT for me. I was ready to give up, but then, I was roped in to read ONE MORE ad about a  cream by Clinique...and the reviews...they just....GOT ME. GOT ME I TELL 'YA! Everyone talked about the matte finish you get after using this BB cream. Many people said it left their skin too dry and they couldn't use it. That perked me up! Some people said it was amazing after they mixed it with lotion. I thought to myself "my face provides its very own lotion!" I wanted to try it, so I decided during my run yesterday that I was going to go on a splurge adventure to a Sephora near me and give myself a makeover to see how the Clinique BB cream worked out. The weather was great, so I took the bus down to Sephora and went directly to the Clinique section. At first I was upset because I couldn't find Shade 1. (The cream comes in three shades, 1, 2, & 3...genius. I know). Finally, I found it, but it was almost out. When I smeared some onto my hand, however, I realized it was WAY too pale for me. Hello dead body shade. I didn't need that shade anyway. Instead, I needed shade 2, and there was ONE bottle left of shade 2 if I did indeed want to purchase it. YAY. I grabbed it and put it in my basket JUST in case. Then I took the bottle marked 'try me,' cleaned it off at makeover counter, and used it!

Unlike some of the reviews online, I had no trouble getting it to blend on my skin. Like I said, I self-lotionize about 4 minutes after washing my face. It gave  really great coverage, but the ultimate test would be the TIME test, so I walked around the store and wasted time giving myself a manicure (Libby style) and trying different products. After about 40 minutes actually, I went back to check myself in the mirror. Much to my amazement, I was still pretty dry- not oily at all. This made me really excited. Since Sephora allows returns on used makeup, I decided to go ahead and buy the cream and go home.

I waited until around 8 p.m. to wash my face, and it still wasn't very oily, so I'm quite pleased with the Clinique BB Cream. I didn't use it today. I'm going to try it again tomorrow and decide if I will keep it. I think it's a keeper, however.

Product Details: (copied from Clinique.com )  This instant morning routine gives skin just about everything it needs for a quick start. SPF (SPF 37) protection, antioxidants for prevention, plus enough coverage to banish imperfections. The perfect primer, too. Why is BB Cream an Asian cult favourite? Clinique's clients in Asia know it means perfect-looking skin. It will take you a minute to realize it's true. Very fair complexions with pink undertones, use Shade 01. Very fair to moderately fair complexions with golden undertones, use Shade 02. Moderately Fair to Medium with Golden Undertones, use Shade 03

So if my review has convinced you and you too would like to spend your money on this as a summer lotion/sunblock/make-up, you can find it at the following stores:

1. Sephora, for $37. They allow returns and are everywhere, so getting it is pretty convenient.
2. Macy's, also $37. The plus of purchasing it from Macy's right now is that the Clinique counter is having a  bonus , so you'll get lots of freebies if you spend 21.50. To receive the bonus, you must purchase in stores.
3. Clinique.com, once again, $37. You receive free shipping if you spend $50. Otherwise, shipping is $6.00. They usually give you a choice of free samples when you purchase from them.

All of these places allow returns of opened products if you do so within a certain amount of days/weeks. Another purchasing tip. I purchased shade 2. It was good for me. There is one shade darker (#3), although I am not sure it is dark enough for Jenn or Marisa :). The shade down, (shade #1), is really pale, perhaps made for people who have the skin tone of Franklin (but are girls). :)

Happy BBing Friends :)

I've never heard of BB cream, will have to do some more research into that. :) Glad you found one that worked for you. I love Clinque's stuff, might just have to try theirs first.
